Sharing the special moments

209. Holding hands with the best of times
Friday 29 August 2003

When I reflect on the best of times with any companion, it seems to me that it is often looking at something together: a sunrise, a sunset, the sky, the stars, the sea, nature, scenery, animals. Or engaged in some shared activity: reading, listening, playing music, watching a film, digging in the garden, spring cleaning, making something. Or simply being side by side: walking in the woods, sitting on a wall swinging legs in time with one another, or on the rocks dangling feet in the water - holding hands maybe.

You were always a great one for holding hands, Jamie Man, right to the very end. I remember when you were small. I would come home from a day out with arm and fingers feeling quite worn out, simply from all that holding on. And now? Now I still feel you holding on tight. So tight, that it can often bring tears to my eyes ...
