16 Jul 2005 - Hey, Mr Big! goes out on the road
The costs and practical difficulties of distribution can present a major obstacle to any self-publishing venture, not least one based in the Highlands of Scotland.
We are immensely grateful therefore to two local businesses who have willingly agreed to participate in a novel and highly effective solution to the problem which allows us to distribute books at no cost throughout much of the North of Scotland.
On Monday The Landmark Press, will be taking a first consignment of books for outlets in Blair Atholl, Aberfeldy, Blairgowrie, Perth, Crieff, Dunblane and Fort William as they go about their normal business of delivering tourist information leaflets. Further deliveries to other areas will follow, covering much of the country from Stirling to the Far North Coast.
Meanwhile, discussions are underway with the Carr-Bridge Hotel to coordinate our book-selling contacts to fit in with some of the popular tourist locations visited by their coach parties and other hotel visitors.
Jamie had his first ever role on stage at the age of 6, when he played the part of the Jolly Postman in the school Christmas show. Now it seems we have a growing band of Jolly Postmen and Jolly Postwomen to thank for joining in to help us spread the word. Jamie would have loved the whole idea!
It can also be noted that every single one of the outlets listed on the Mr Big website has agreed to stock the book at no profit, or only a nominal mark-up, thus helping to maximise the amount raised for The Jamie Fund. Our thanks to all concerned for their support!
