9 Jul 2005 - Song for Jamie wins a runners-up merit prize for poetry
A letter has arrived this morning with the news that Hold on to the smiles, one of the songs featured in Hey, Mr Big!, has been selected amongst the Top 100 Poets in the Forward Press competition for 2005.
Hold on to the smiles was written in August 2003 for the pupils of Carr-bridge Primary School as they returned to school after the summer holidays, and the words of the song were read to the children at the Remembrance Assembly that was held for Jamie on the second day of term.
The song was subsequently performed by a number of the children as a part of their Christmas pantomime 2003.
Selection as a runner-up in the Top 100 brings with it the reward of a cash prize plus further publication of the lyrics of the song in the coming anthology of winning poems, due on 31 July 2005. More details of this anthology will be available on the Forward Press website at www.forwardpress.co.uk.
