28 Jun 2005 - Carr-Bridge Primary marks the arrival of "The Jamie Bench"

In the spring of 1998 , each child in Carr-Bridge Primary School was given the opportunity to plant a tree in the school grounds, as part of a major redevelopment of the play areas organised by the PTA.

As described in Hey, Mr Big!, Jamie - then in P2 - and his friends planted their trees in a quiet spot behind the school buildings. Since then a nursery extension has been added with Jamie, Bryce and Eoghann's tall aspen trees now in pride of place in the centre of the new fenced off play area for the wee ones.

As a permanent reminder of Jamie for his friends, the PTA have arranged for a low wooden bench to be installed around the foot of Jamie's tree. And this is now in everyday use by the children of the nursery as they prepare to move up into the school in their turn.

Today, at the final awards assembly of the school year, Rev David Whyte led the pupils and parents in a prayer of dedication for what has now simply become known to the children as "The Jamie Bench."

And during the assembly the whole gathering joined together in the singing of the song The trees grow tall, written by David Gasking for the primary school leavers in 2004, who were the very last generation of tree planters to move on up to the Grammar School.
