28 Jan 2005 - The SSPCA sets up a photo shoot for Heiki, 12 weeks old

The Inverness Courier ran a half-page feature on page 2 today which managed to combine the arrival of a new puppy, the publication of Hey, Mr Big! and Jamie's love for the Gang Show.

As described in Hey, Mr Big! Jamie was a keen supporter of the Scottish Society for the Protection of animals and the SSPCA have played a key role in the early promotion of the book. Indeed it was the small tribute item that appeared in their AX junior members' magazine that caught the eye of an Edinburgh-based press agency and thence led to the first national newspaper. coverage for the book, in the Scottish Daily Mail.

It was a chance remark in an e-mail to the SSPCA head office in Edinburgh this time that prompted this latest press attention. A throwaway comment that we had been talking of having another dog ....

Within a matter of hours the news came back from Edinbugh that the SSPCA's Inverness Animal Centre had just taken in a litter of four Labrador-cross puppies, all so very similar to our previous dog Kjersti who died in 1999.

A mere 4 days later we found ourselves at the Inverness Centre to collect our new puppy Heiki, with the photographer from the Inverness Courier on hand to record the event.

And thus in the newspaper today there's Heiki starring in her first photo shoot, together with a reprinting of Jamie's Keystone Cop picture, that previously appeared in the Invernness Courier as part of the advanced publicity for the Gang Show in 2003, and an article describing the background to Hey, Mr Big!.

Jamie, I know, would have found the whole affair highly amusing.
