16 Jan 2004 - The Jamie Weekend opens with a BIG salute to a true hero

The Jamie Weekend got off to a rousing start with the village samba drumming band Carrumba and the Carr-Bridge Music Club opening an evening of music and entertainment in the Carr-Bridge Hotel attended by some 300 people.

The event offered the ideal occasion for the community to salute the self-less courage of Andrew Dale from Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries & Galloway, who went to Jamie's assistance at the Falls of Bruar, climbing down the clifts alone and at great personal risk. Andrew was presented with the Certificate on Vellum for bravery awarded by the Royal Humane Society.
Present to see Andrew receive the award were his wife Pamela and daughter Nicola along with Dr Jan Calder from Edinburgh and WPC Rosie Mann of Pitlochry Police, all of whom played a role in the events of that day.

Following the presentation we were treated to a selection of songs performed by Jamie's friends from Carr-Bridge Primary School plus a sketch from three of his fellow performers in the Inverness Area Gang Show 2003. Gang Show Convener Iain Macdonald who had travelled to Carr-Bridge with the three youngsters revealed that this was the first occasion in the 20-year history of the Gang Show that an item had been performed at any other outside venue.

Thanks are due to all who came together to make this a truly memorable evening.
